3 bookmakers selected to bet online on IPL matches in Palghar near Mumbai

The Local Criminal Branch (LCB) of Palghar Police arrested three bookies, Jinesh Punamiya, 34, Irfan Shaikh, 34, and Shahbaaz Khan, 36, for their alleged involvement in an online cricket betting racket at Dahanu Tuesday evening.

“We acted on a denunciation and raided a medical store in Dahanu belonging to Punamiya. We have found that the accused has allegedly accepted bets for Tuesday night’s T-20 cricket match between the Mumbai Indians and the Rajasthan Royals in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL), ”Inspector Ravindra Naik said. , LCB, Palghar.

All three defendants had accepted and placed bets on apps and websites on their smartphones. The police seized the phones and numerous SIM cards. The three accused were arrested under the relevant sections of the Indian Telegraph Act 1985 and the Maharashtra Gambling Prevention Act 1987. A total of ??1.25 lakh of bets were placed for the IPL match using the app the trio downloaded after paying ??1 lakh for user ID and password, Naik said.

In Dahanu and Palghar, bookmakers have adopted high-tech means to place bets and settle accounts in cashless mode via mobile apps and websites.
