Carlisle Placepot pick: Tom Segal thinks he’s cracked the jump map | New tips

The Carlisle card could be the most competitive jumps meeting in Britain so far this season and cracking the Placepot won’t be easy.

To keep the expense as small as possible, it might be worth betting on Rock On Cowboy in the first novice hurdle (12.50). He looked good winning his point to point and comes from a fit yard, although the same can be said for a few others.

A case can be made for the following batchesThe Limited Handicap Chase of Gordon Richards Novices (1.25) but No Regrets will surely have been prepared for the race by Nicky Richards since the race is named after his father.

Jonjo O’Neill won the race last season and saddles the undefeated Iron Bridge. Who knows how good he could get?

Wor Verge was a comfortable winner over course and distance earlier in the month and will be extremely tough to keep out of bounds in the Visit Handicap Hurdle (1.58).

Last banker is Navajo Pass in the other handicap hurdle (3.05). He recently won a flat race by nearly ten lengths and is extremely handicapped on his old hurdles form.

By far the best race on the map is the Colin Parker Memorial (2.30). It’s still won by a horse that takes part in some of the best chases later in the season and today’s race looks up to par.

Corach Rambler would prefer to go further but he looked absolutely class winning the Ultima at the Cheltenham Festival and this steep track should play to his strengths. He accompanies Bear Ghylls, who is making his hunting debut but was good enough to finish fourth in Ballymore 2021.

If you’ve reached the final Placepot stage, you’ll have done well, but don’t count your chickens yet because the Dowson Blades Cumberland Handicap Chase (3.40) is tricky.

Houston Texas is two of two on the trail and will surely be fine but watch out for an improved effort from Rath An Iuir, who is also undefeated in Carlisle and is starting this season on a very high note.
