Man fined over £400 after being caught tipping by Test Valley Borough Council

A man has been fined over £400 after he was caught tipping plastic wrappers and shattered glass in a Hampshire village by hidden cameras.

On November 5, 2021, Barry Jones, of Millway Road, Andover, was recorded illegally dumping controlled waste including plastic packaging and broken glass at Marrow Puts near Newbury Hill, Charlton.

Appearing at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court on April 12, he admitted the offense and was fined £440.

He must also pay a fee of £150.

Reacting to the sentence, Test Valley Borough Councilor Nick Adams-King said: “I am delighted to tell you about another successful pursuit for TVBC’s brilliant environmental control team, captured once again using our secret cameras in a rocking hot spot.

“While we obviously don’t divulge their locations, they are always on the move, so the risk of being caught on camera just isn’t worth it.

“My thanks once again go to the hard work of our Environmental Services team and our Legal Department working side by side to move these lawsuits forward.

“I would also like to thank everyone who continues to report fly tipping through the various channels – we always take action and seek to prosecute whenever enough evidence can be found. The My Council Services app, online, via email or by phone can be used to report this disgusting behavior.”
