Newmarket Placepot tips: Graeme Rodway with his perm for Thursday’s card | New tips

The Placepot at Newmarket kicks off with a tricky mile maiden (1.15) in which a formidable standard is not set. Maybe newcomers Garden Route and A Dublin Lad can get us through.

Charlie Appleby usually dominates the big Newmarket meets and there’s no point looking past his runners in the mile nursery (1.50). Put Bold Act and One Nation in the perm.

The fillies’ 6f (2.25) handicap looks like a good opportunity for Azure Blue to get back to winning ways and she rates banker’s gear provided all eight riders get to the start.

The winner will be needed in the Tattersalls Stakes (3.00) feature and it’s a tough race to call. Nostrum was impressive at Sandown and accompanies the colt of Godolphin Victory Dance.

Only two places will be available in the following Listed 2m (3.35). Thunderous looks sure to run well after a good effort in York last time out, but Ranch Hand is a solid alternative.

Handicap 1m4f (4.10) is the last leg and Amtiyaz is one of my best bets of the day. However, it can take a hit and it is worth having an insurance policy including Dhahabi.
