Pontefract Placepot perm: Tom Segal with his bankers for the Sunday card | New tips

Pontefract’s card may not be of Royal Ascot quality, but it is nonetheless very competitive and cracking the Placepot is no easy task.

That said, I think there are bankers who will make any perm cheaper starting with Lady Lavina in Juvenile Maiden (3.45).

Her form at Chelmsford looks the best on offer and she should relish the steep track.

The best race is the Listed fillies competition (4.45) in which the solid stayer Bartzella will be difficult to pass. However, By Starlight were unlucky not to win a Group 3 Haydock last time out and might be underrated.

The last banker is Exminster in the Handicap mile (6.15). He showed improved form when he won at York last time out and the 6-pound rise shouldn’t be enough to stop him from hitting the frame.

The other races are more tricky, but Didtheyleaveuoutto will enjoy the trip and run aground in the handicap 2m2f (5.15). He must accompany Twilight Prince, who had the misfortune not to win in Bath last time.

The 1m2f (4.15) handicap is extremely competitive, but El Picador traveled well last time and could still improve on the trip. Course specialist Highwaygrey is the other to put in the perm as he is now on a high handicap and could easily bounce back to form.

Unplugged stayed well to win shorter at this track on his debut for the Easterbys and there should be more to come from him in the 1m4f (5.45) handicap. Topweight Fishable is back on a high and should be included as well.
