WVU vs. Pitt Odds at WV Sportsbook

Opening week in college football is always a bit more interesting than the others. Although sports betting operators lay the lines as always, it is possible that the odds are just a touch away. Until each of these teams plays a few games, we won’t really know what everyone is working with.

Last weekend Week 0 provided a bunch of close matches that weren’t necessarily meant to be.

While this information won’t necessarily do anything for WVU climbers on their first inclination, it could provide some optimism despite the current spread.

Currently, DraftKings Sportsbook WV shows Mountaineers receive +7.5 in the distribution of points. The online bookmaker lists them with odds of +245 on the money linecompared to Pitt at -295.

This game total is set to exactly 51 dots at present.

Both of these teams feature very similar changes to their respective rosters. Both teams deploy a different quarterback from a year ago in Week 1.

Pitt recently named USC Kedon Slovis Transfer his starter after losing standout Kenny Pickett to Steelers at the end NFL Draft. The eldest has played parts of the past three seasons with Southern California, recording his best year in 2019.

This season saw Slovis almost finish 72% of his pass attempts over 3,500 yards. He also threw for 30 touchdowns against just nine interceptions.

Slovis was highly regarded as a solid nfl prospect not too long ago, and a successful season with Pitt could improve his stock even further.

WVU’s new QB shares a story close to that of Slovis. Mountaineers will start the transfer news daniels who comes to town from Georgia, but also played at USC before that. The two were actually teammates as Trojans in 2019.

Again, a quality performance from Daniels throughout the season is likely to catapult his name into the discussion of capable players in the NFL. Daniels ended his most productive year with USC in 2018throwing over 2,600 yards and 14 scores on 11 tilts.

WVU vs. Pitt Football Preview

It may be incredibly obvious, but the quarterback’s play on Thursday night will likely determine a lot. If Daniels is efficient and doesn’t create problems for his team with turnovers, then the Mountaineers can definitely pull off a win.

Even though the Panthers lost a quarterback in the first round and incredible talent on the outside in Jordan Addisonthey did well to retool themselves in the transfer portal. With Addison ironically at USC, Pitt will rely on a few other receivers to carry the load.

One of Slovis’ main potential targets is Konata Mumpfieldwho joined the team after a season at Akron. He won Freshman All-American honors after posting 63 receptions, 751 yards and eight touchdowns a year ago.

Pitt’s receiving corps also includes valuable players who have helped 2021. Senior Jared wayne more than doubled his production from the previous year, rushing for more than 650 receiving yards on 47 catches.

The big wide has shown his talents on several occasions, however, he has often been overshadowed by Addison. With more targets available this time around, Wayne is able to take his game to the next level.

These weapons, plus the return of first rusher Israel Abanikanda, should cause many problems for opposing defenses. WVU will try to limit Pitt’s big plays, while trying to generate pressure on Slovis at the same time.

On the other side of the field, the Mountaineers know they need to score points to have a chance of winning.

Daniels will be looking to get the ball out quickly to several solid options on the outside. Both Brice Ford Wheaton and Sam James are back after a year in which they each finished with 42 catches and over 500 yards. They are likely to receive a lot of additional looks this season with the departure of Winston Wright Jr. at state of florida.
